ALAMO COLLEGES issued the following announcement on April 21.
St. Philip’s College (SPC) and Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) have been recognized with awards from the Quality Texas Foundation.
St. Philip’s College has received the Texas Award-Next for Performance Excellence award. Award-Next recognition is achieved only after previously being a Governor’s Award recipient, signifying continued quality and improvement efforts. Northeast Lakeview College has received Progress Level Recognition from the Quality Texas Foundation (QTF). Achieving recognition at the Progress Level indicates substantial progress toward institutionalizing an effective, systematic approach to organizational management, with good performance levels and trends evaluated against industry standards.
“The latest TAPE recognitions for the Alamo Colleges District’s two colleges reflect our continuing journey to achieve ever higher levels of excellence,” said Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores. “Congratulations to Dr. Loston and Dr. Garcia, as well as their faculty and staff, for the hard work and dedication which has earned them this honor,” he added.
“We are excited to have this continued recognition from the Quality Texas Foundation. In 2018, we received the Governor’s Award. This Next Level Award gives testimony to our continued best practices. We are continuously engaging in a performance excellence journey to ensure that we remain at the forefront of service delivery to our students and community,” said SPC President Dr. Adena Williams Loston.
A Texas Award for Performance Excellence (TAPE) takes six-to-ten years to achieve. Through several cycles of learning and strategic planning, the college systematically built its organizational effectiveness and narrowed its focus to hone in on its core competencies — quality instruction, student engagement and community engagement.
NLC began its journey with the Quality Texas Foundation in 2016, receiving Pioneer Recognition, followed by Engagement Level Recognition in 2018 and Commitment Level in 2019. Northeast Lakeview College uses feedback from Quality Texas Foundation (QTF) at each of its recognized levels as part of its overall continuous improvement process and annual planning cycle.
“This recognition is a collective effort that built on what the faculty, staff, and administration does every day in support of improving the lives of our students and the communities that we serve,” says Dr. Veronica Garcia, Northeast Lakeview College president.
Utilizing the same criteria and process as the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, TAPE is an annual recognition of Texas organizations that have achieved excellence in organizational performance and have applied outstanding quality principles in their day-to-day operations. TAPE winners are role model organizations demonstrating exceptional performance in all areas of organizational management - leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, workforce focus, operations focus and results.
