ALAMO COLLEGES: Alamo Colleges Gives Students $9.9 Million in CARES Act Emergency Aid

Money 05

Alamo Colleges issued the following announcement on June 15

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Grants under the federal CARES act are based on student expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), and the funding is not tied to existing financial aid programs such as Pell Grants. All funds are distributed directly to students to help with expenses for access to technology for remote learning, buying groceries, paying rent, utilities, healthcare or childcare expenses.

Eligibility requirements for CARES Act Emergency Aid are based on guidance and criteria provided by the U.S. Department of Education

The Alamo Colleges District received approximately $22.6M in funds from the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. Those funds were split equally between student emergency aid and institutional aid. As of Monday, June 15, approximately $9.9M in student emergency aid has been distributed to approximately 17,000 students. Below is a breakdown by college.
