The Atascosa County Commissioners Court recently approved rent and mortgage assistance for locals who are feeling the economic pinch of the COVID-19 crisis.
According to the Pleasanton Express, applicants will not receive the money directly. Instead, the county will make payments directly to landlords and lenders on behalf of those who qualify. Assistance is also limited, and there is no plan to expand the program once funds run out.
“In this unprecedented time of economic crisis in our country, many families have lost jobs or had their pay or hours reduced due to the economic consequences of the pandemic,” Atascosa County Judge Bob Hurley told the Pleasanton Express.
Hurley said that the county expects to assist dozens in meeting past-due rent and mortgage payments for April and May.
To apply, residents must be able to provide proof of unpaid mortgage or rent, proof they have previously made payments, and proof they have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 crisis in terms of lost or reduced employment.
Applications can be found online at www.atascosacounty.texas.gov, or can be picked up in-person at the Atascosa County judge’s office at the courthouse, Pleasanton City Hall, Jourdanton City Hall, Poteet City Hall, Charlotte City Hall and Lytle City Hall.
