South West Texas Junior College issued the following announcement on June 26.
In an abundance of caution, SWTJC officials are delaying the reopening of the Powers & Kirchner Child Development Center (SWTJC Daycare) amid the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the region.
“We feel with the recent rise in COVID-19 cases in our region, the 4th of July holiday around the corner, the vulnerability of the age group being addressed, are reasons enough to keep our SWTJC community safe,” said Derek Sandoval, vice president of administrative services.
According to the Uvalde Health Authority’s website, there are currently 27 active cases in Uvalde County and recently reported the first COVID-19 related death.
