PLEASANTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT: Letter from Dr. Matthew Mann, Superintendent

Signing

Pleasanton Independent School District issued the following announcement.

PISD Families and Staff,

As we monitor the on-going changes related to the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to work towards restarting school in the safest way possible for students, staff, families and our community. As cases continue to rise in our area and across Texas, I feel it is prudent to make our decisions carefully and methodically, allowing ourselves enough time to evaluate implications of each decision. On Tuesday, August 4, PISD will have a special called board meeting and I will be asking the board to consider adopting a revised calendar for the 2020-2021 school year.

This calendar will move the start date for students from August 17, back three weeks, with the new first day of school for students to be September 8. The additional time will allow us to continue to monitor developments and cases, train staff on new protocols and learning techniques, and allow families more time to decide if a face-to-face or virtual learning platform will be most appropriate for their families. We recognize that a change to the start date in the 2020-2021 calendar impacts families in a variety of ways and we want to provide as much lead time on this as possible so you can plan to meet your family’s needs. The calendar change will also impact various programs and activities connected to the beginning of the school year. More information about staff start dates and beginning of programs will be forthcoming.

Our staff is diligently working through this dynamic situation and the ever changing guidelines for public schools to balance the educational, social-emotional, and physical needs of our students with the health and safety of students, staff, families, and our community. I am grateful for your continued support and appreciate your prayers as we make these decisions. We will continue to release information about changes, protocols, expectations, and options for families as the information is finalized.
