Hospital representatives and officials from Laredo and Eagle Pass were recently included in virtual meetings with Gov. Greg Abbott to discuss the ongoing state and local efforts related to COVID-19.
Local officials who were involved in the virtual meeting for Laredo were Mayor Pete Saenz, Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina and the CEOs of local hospitals, according to a news release from Abbott’s office. Subjects covered included Laredo alternate care site, the need for additional ICU capacity, and state support for testing staff in Webb County’s local jails.
The Eagle Pass virtual meeting included Mayor Luis Sifuentes and Maverick County Judge David Saucedo, according to the release. Subjects discussed during the meeting included the testing needs for home and health care workers, additional personal protective equipment for those engaged in that work, and plans for schools to reopen in the fall.
In advance of the Laredo virtual meeting, the news release states that physicians from the state and the Texas Military Department also met with local officials and hospital executives to discuss increasing ICU capacity.
