Frio Regional Hospital issued the following announcement.
Maybe you haven't had a real haircut since the pandemic began. Or maybe you've managed to get at least one professional trim since your favorite salon or barbershop opened again. Either way, before you book your next appointment, learn what you can do to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Reduce the risk
From wearing masks to cleaning more frequently, many barbers and stylists are taking steps to help keep customers safer. You can do your part too.
What follows are a few helpful tips. They're courtesy of the Professional Beauty Association (a beauty industry group) and the American Industrial Hygiene Association (a workplace health and safety group).
- Stay home if you're sick or at high risk. You should call your doctor and postpone your haircut if you have symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, fatigue or a cough. You should also avoid going to a salon if someone you are close to has symptoms or has tested positive for the virus or if you are at high risk for severe COVID-19 complications.
- Go to your appointment alone.
- Wear a cloth face mask, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and mandated while out in public in many areas.
- When you arrive at the salon, wait outside or in your car until your stylist is ready for you. The staff may call, text or come get you. When you call to make your appointment, find out what you should do when you show up.
- Try to stay at least 6 feet from others when walking to your chair.
- Avoid touching surfaces whenever you can. If hair-care products are sold in the salon, please don't touch them unless you mean to buy them.
- If possible, pay for your haircut ahead of time over the phone. Or use cashless options. Limiting contact helps limit the potential spread of germs.
- Wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer when you enter the salon. You should also sanitize your hands once more before you leave the salon.
