In his book, Insurgent Aztlán The Liberating Power of Cultural Resistance (2020 International Latino Book Award Winner - Best Political/Current Affairs), Ernesto Todd Mireles reconstructs the relationship between social-political insurgent theory and Xicano literature, film and myth. He makes a solid case for addressing the decades-long decline of Mexican American identity within itself and among sectors of American society by asserting the influential role of culture and history, in the preservation and political advancement of a people.

As Coordinator of the Frantz Fanon Community Strategy Center at Prescott College, Ernesto Todd Mireles organized for the United Farm Workers, United Steelworkers, and American Federation of Teachers. He is the co-director of the Social Justice Community Organizing Master’s program, where he teaches community organizing. He holds a Master of Social Work in organizational and community practice and a Ph.D. in American studies from Michigan State University. Mireles is currently working on releasing a second book of shorter writings titled La Xicanada: Journal of Revolutionary Thought. He is also completing a documentary titled, War of the Flea: Fight for Xicano Studies.
