Community Services Agency of South Texas is one of seven entities to be awarded funding through the Housing Preservation Grants program.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture will invest $1.24 million designated for assisting in house repairs for low-income families. Community Services Agency of South Texas will receive $143,000, of which $15,000 will be awarded to households for repairs that address safety and health concerns.
“The cost of maintaining a home is challenging for many rural homeowners and this funding will help preserve and improve living conditions in order to enhance the prosperity of rural Texas,” State Director Edd Hargett said the press release reported. “USDA has been working tirelessly to be a strong partner to rural Texas in building stronger and healthier communities, because we know when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”
Funding can be spent on repair such as HVAC equipment, windows, attic insulation, roof repair or replacement, electrical and gas lines. Repairs can reduce energy costs significantly for those in need of assistance.
