Enrollment Analysis: African American students comprised 0.1% of Eagle PASS ISD schools' student body in 2021-22 school year

There were seven African American students enrolled in Eagle PASS ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 53.3% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Eagle PASS ISD schools welcomed 13,385 students during the 2021-22 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 0.1% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Eagle PASS ISD roughly covers schools within Maverick County and has a main office in Eagle Pass.

Among the 24 schools in Eagle PASS ISD schools, Eagle Pass High School recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2021-22 school year, with a total of two students.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
