Mc Mullen County: White students were most represented ethnicity in 2022-23 school year

White students made up the largest ethnic group in Mc Mullen County schools in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 282 students attending Mc Mullen County schools, 56.4% were white. Hispanic students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 42.2% of the total enrollment.

In the previous school year, white students also made up the largest ethnic group in Mc Mullen County, comprising 58.3% of the student body.

McMullen County School had the most diverse student body in Mc Mullen County, including white, American Indian, Black, Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and multiracial.

In the 2022-23 school year, total public school enrollment in the county dropped 0.4% when compared to the previous year.

“As a result, many districts in our very own Central Texas region are being forced to cut back on essential programs, services, consider school closures, and adopt deficit budgets just to provide students with the education that they deserve,” Hutto ISD Trustee James Matlock said.
