An animal control facility that is operating under an emergency management plan due to the COVID-19 emergency disaster has reached a milestone in minimizing its stock of pets.
The Atascosa County Animal Control facility at 292 Spur 162 in Jourdanton has a facility that is “operating at an all-time low” for pets available for adoption, according to an April 27 post on Atascosa County Animal Control’s Facebook page.
“As of today, we are currently at a 25 percent kennel occupancy level," the Facebook post said. "This is the lowest kennel capacity that we have been since we opened in October 2018."
The animal control’s emergency management plan is supposed to make kennel space available for many pets in a local disaster declaration.
An April 27 Facebook post gave an example of the emergency management plan being implemented when 14 dogs were saved by Animal Defense League in San Antonio.
“Thanks to the generosity of our rescue partners, and our support group ATTA-Paw, we were able to transfer all these dogs to a ‘no kill’ facility this weekend,” the April 27 Facebook post said. “This is all part of our Emergency management plan and our Emergency Preparedness status. It is important to minimize our stock of pets here so that we may be able to house any pets that need emergency housing. So far we have accomplished this goal thanks to our rescue partners.”
