Dimmit County schools enrolled 1,464 students who identified as economically disadvantaged in the state during the 2022-23 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 1,903 students enrolled in Dimmit County schools, 76.9% were considered economically disadvantaged. This is a 1.7% decrease from the previous school year.

Dimmit County enrolled the 101st lowest number of students identified as economically disadvantaged among Texas counties.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they're offering better education for more Texas students.
