Hispanic students comprised the most prevalent ethnic group in Maverick County schools in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 13,869 students attending Maverick County schools, 97.3% were Hispanic. American Indian students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 1.6% of the total enrollment.

In the previous school year, Hispanic students also made up the largest ethnic group in Maverick County, comprising 97.1% of the student body.

Eagle Pass High School had the most diverse student body in Maverick County, including white, American Indian, Black, Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and multiracial.

When compared to the previous school year, total public school enrollment in the county dropped 0.5%.

“As a result, many districts in our very own Central Texas region are being forced to cut back on essential programs, services, consider school closures, and adopt deficit budgets just to provide students with the education that they deserve,” Hutto ISD Trustee James Matlock said.
